THE YOUNG WARDROBE PROJECT

WHY THE YOUNG WARDROBE PROJECT?

The Young Wardrobe Project was created to help eligible low-income children and youth in Alliance Ohio begin the school year with new, school-appropriate clothing and greater confidence. For families already balancing food, housing, utilities, transportation, childcare, health expenses, and other necessities, replacing an entire school wardrobe can create a significant financial burden.

Children grow quickly. Shoes become too small, jeans and uniforms stop fitting, and coats, undergarments, shirts, and
other everyday clothing need to be replaced.

The project responds to that practical need while preserving dignity and
giving young people an appropriate voice in choosing clothing that fits their needs and personal style.
THE PURPOSE
The purpose of The Young Wardrobe Project is to reduce the financial burden of back-to-school clothing in the Alliance area.

Our plan creates a positive, respectful shopping experience for children and youth.

SELECTED PARTICIPANTS
shop with their parent or legal guardian and an assigned FEMI Personal Shopper. No cash is given to students or parents. FEMI pays approved clothing purchases directly to the retailer and maintains documentation of program expenditures.

THE ECONOMIC NEED AROUND OUR RESOURCE CENTER
The neighborhood-level data we discussed for central Alliance shows a sharp income difference between Census Tracts: Tract 4 where the FMRC is located has an estimated median household income of $17,645. Alliance overall is estimated at $56,106, while Stark County is estimated at $67,934. $17,645 $56, 106 $67,934
